We’ve talked a bit about understanding what SEO is all about in SEO for Beginners, and today wanted to share an actionable checklist to help set your business up for SEO success.
(Good news -- it’s not hard, it just takes intention and consistency.)
Make sure you have a great mobile site. This is no longer optional, since customers are using mobile devices and computers interchangeably to access content. Statista reported that as of 2018, 52.2% of all website traffic worldwide came from mobile devices. Not only does a strong mobile site mean user experience will be better, it also will help from an SEO standpoint. Google registers traffic to your site regardless of where it comes from (mobile or desktop), so you want people to be able to easily access your website from any platform.
Put your most important information on the homepage. This is important for branding (tell your customers the key things your brand is and the key things you offer!), but also for SEO. You want your site to be simple to navigate for users AND simple for Google as it crawls your site.
Make sure your content is engaging. This will keep users on your site longer, helping improve your bounce rate for SEO. Plus, it will mean they’re more likely to engage with your site’s call to action!
Sign up for Webmaster tools. Both Google and Bing have these suites of tools available to help provide data and configuration control for your site within each network.
Use analytics tools. Don’t worry! Even if you’re a beginner, you can use these to capture insights such as what’s bringing users to your site and -- also important! -- what content is keeping them there the longest. You can use these insights to make your site and its content even stronger, thereby improving your SEO, too!
